As we now have the largest wireless network in West Africa. Managing and utilizing this infrastructure is a major concern to me as the campus Network Administrator. I believe the track i chose in this workshop will help me a lot in that aspect. Internet/Intranet services management Member Planning committee of the UNN-ICT Strategy Program Relativity: information and communication technology (ICT) has become a veritable tool for the accomplishment of a wide variety of tasks. The highest level of ICT infrastructure is needed to enhance teaching and research. An because of this the University Administration is desirous to evolve an ICT driven academic and research environment. A brief description of your computing and networking environment (operating systems, networking software, modems, etc.), including the connectivity of your organization to the Internet and your country's connectivity to the international Internet* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Internet Connectivity: We currently have a 50Mbps of Internet bandwidth shared among our various campuses. This bandwidth is delievered into the campus through Terrestrial link(Fibre). Approximately 60 kilometres of Fibre Optics was used to achieve this. We also have satellite links with smaller Internet bandwidths. our ISPs include Mainone,Gilat and Intelsat University Network: We currenlty have a comprehensive, ubiquitous, always on wired and wireless network that covers the entire geography of our campuses. We also have a hybrid implementation of a Fibre Optic backhaul, we are also currenlty doing an extensive structured cabling to all major buildings for teaching, laboratory work, administration, student, staff residences and WiFi for the last meter. Infrastructure and Application Servers We currently have a few Infrastructure servers that provides: management, security, identification, logging and network optimization services. Our routers and switches include: Mikrotik, cisco, hp-procurve and Dlinks Each campus has a data center that accommodates equipments including power, network and management infrastructure. We also have a call centre to manage communication between teams/engineers and users(This call centre is web-based). Power Supply We have Dedicated Power supply from renewable power source such as Solar and inverters to power our wireless equipments and servers. Student and Staff Computing: Due to the Computer AID programe that the university setup; Most staff and student have a computer of a minimum configuration of 1‐2GB RAM, 60‐160 GB HDD with good processing power and are Internet‐ready.
