Reason for Track Choice*

Currently i manage the university campus network, and we are currently running a project tagged ICT Strategy programme, this project is in collaboration with Google and other organisations and its major goal is to improve the teaching, learning and research experience through the use of technology, since then we had expanded our network and Implemented some services on the network. As we now have the largest wireless network in West Africa. Managing and utilizing this infrastructure is a major concern to me as the campus Network Administrator. I believe the track i chose in this workshop  will help me a lot in that aspect.

I have used the "Clone of UNIX" ie LINUX. I use it as a desktop and also as a sever. Its an operating system i mostly use. Some of things i use LINUX for include: internet ,productivity, multimedia, graphics, and even games.

I often configure/managed Mikrotik, Dlink and Cisco devices. The setups i do include: Routing protocols(Static routing, RIP, RIPv2, EIGRP, OSPF and IS-IS), firewall setup, hotspot setups, wireless setup on microtik router, vpn/ppp connections, authentication platforms to integrat with radius servers, general routing and administration.
I also seldomly work with Juniper and vyatta routing platforms, whenever i have the opportunity, things i do are similar with with i do on cisco and mikrotik platforms

I often configure/managed Dlink, Hp procurve and Cisco devices. The setups i do include: Routing protocols(Static routing, RIP, RIPv2, EIGRP), general security setup, VLAN, STP and rSTP,authentication platforms to integrat with radius servers, general routing and administration.

About my current employer(University of Nigeria, Nsukka):
The University of Nigeria was founded in 1960 by Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, an African legend, who was also Nigeria’s first president. The founding of the university in 1960 - the same year Nigeria gained political independence - was informed by the need to produce the highly skilled men and women that will fulfill the manpower needs of the newly independent Nigerian state. This unique circumstance of our birth as an institution informed the choice of our motto – to restore the dignity of man.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Cisco Networking Academy Instructor  for UNN Cisco Networking Academy
Setting up and Maintenance of the University Network 
Responsible for setting up SAP technicalities for SAP TERP10 Trainings 
Training of University Staff on Diverse IT Related field 	
Administration and maintenance of university internal networking systems.
Configuration and set-up of all new server systems required internally for the University's different activities.
Firewall administration and overall responsibility for the university IT security.
Administration of email server for university email.
Provide telephone and desktop support to the University internal users.
Forecasting any needed improvements, budgeting for and implementing any changes
Upgrades, installs and troubleshoots networks, networking hardware devices and software
Attend to students and staff online problems
Maintains inventory of equipment and parts as well as documentation of vendor activities
Develops and documents system standards for computer and network devices
Recommend and Carry out repairs on the Campus LAN/WAN
Research, plan, install, configure, troubleshoot, maintain and upgrade operating systems.
Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity problems, including user access and component configuration.

Relativity:
information  and  communication  technology  (ICT)  has  become  a  veritable  tool  for  the 
accomplishment  of  a  wide  variety  of  tasks.  The  highest  level  of  ICT 
infrastructure is needed to enhance teaching and research. An because of this the University  Administration  is  desirous  to  evolve  an  ICT  driven  academic  and  research environment.

Internet Connectivity: 
We currently have a 50Mbps of Internet bandwidth shared among our various campuses. This bandwidth is delievered into the campus through Terrestrial link(Fibre). Approximately 60 kilometres  of  Fibre  Optics  was used to achieve this. We also have satellite links with smaller Internet bandwidths. our ISPs include Mainone,Gilat and Intelsat

University Network:
We currenlty have a  comprehensive,  ubiquitous,  always  on  wired  and  wireless network that covers the entire geography of our campuses.  We also have a  hybrid  implementation  of  a  Fibre  Optic backhaul, we are also currenlty doing an  extensive  structured  cabling  to  all  major  buildings for  teaching,  laboratory  work, administration,  student,  staff residences  and  WiFi  for  the  last  meter.

Infrastructure  and  Application  Servers 
We currently have a few Infrastructure  servers  that  provides:  management,  security, identification, logging and network optimization services. Our routers and switches include: Mikrotik, cisco, hp-procurve and Dlinks 
Each campus has a data center that accommodates equipments including  power, network and management infrastructure. We also have a call centre  to  manage  communication between  teams/engineers  and  users(This call centre is web-based).

Power Supply  
We have Dedicated  Power  supply from  renewable  power  source  such  as  Solar and inverters to power our wireless equipments and servers.
 
Student and Staff Computing:
Due to the Computer AID programe that the university setup; Most staff and student have a computer of a minimum configuration of 1‐2GB RAM, 60‐160 GB HDD with good processing power and are Internet‐ready.

- Currently i manage the university campus network;  The knowledge i acquire will go a long way to improving the university network(both Intranet and Internet services) which will generally improve Teaching Learning and Research of the University as i am also an instructor, the knowledge gained will have a great impact in my students.
